Code of Conduct

At PauseOnError (Pause),  we pledge to act and interact in ways that contribute to an open, welcoming, diverse, inclusive, and healthy community.

Pause is committed to providing harassment-free experiences including conferences, events, public channels, private channels, and direct messages, both online and off for participants to connect, collaborate, and share ideas. All participants have a right to a safe and welcoming environment regardless of gender expression and identity, physical appearance, race, body size, ethnicity, disability, religion, age, sexual orientation or any other attribute.

Conduct

Honest and spirited dialogue is encouraged, and opposing viewpoints are welcome but we do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form. Harassment may include, but is not limited to:

  • Offensive or demeaning verbal comments, physical gestures, collateral material, and social media posts that demean, intimidate, threaten, or otherwise uninvitedly target an individual.

  • Harassing photography or recording.

  • Gratuitous or off-topic sexual images or behavior in spaces where they're not appropriate.

  • Inappropriate physical contact.

  • Unwelcome sexual attention.

  • Deliberate intimidation.

  • Stalking or following - online or in the physical world.

  • Bullying, teasing, or diminishing someone's tech prowess or technical choices.

  • Publication of non-harassing private communication

  • Physical contact and simulated physical contact (eg, textual descriptions like "hug" or "backrub") without consent or after a request to stop.

  • Threats of violence.

  • Sustained disruption of Pause functions.

Firearms or other weapons are not permitted at Pause and related functions.

Participants engaging in any of these actions will be asked to stop all offending behavior and must comply immediately. Failure to comply could result in expulsion from the event or space without refund and exclusion from future Pause activities.

When Something Happens

  • Let the person know that what they did is not appropriate and ask them to stop and/or edit their message(s).

  • That person should immediately stop the behavior and correct the issue.

  • If they don’t stop their behavior, or if you’re uncomfortable speaking up, contact one of the organizers (below)

Anyone feeling unwelcome, threatened, intimidated, or afraid is encouraged to reach out to a conduct contact (below). Attendees witnessing harassment are obliged to report it. Conduct contacts will readily help participants experiencing harassment to contact hotel or venue security and/or local law enforcement or provide any other assistance to ensure all feel safe throughout Pause.

Who to Contact

Please contact Martha Zink, Krissy Ferris, Ernest Koe, or John Sindelar. Their contact details will be availble to those registered for an event. You can also always reach them through the Contact page on this site.

What Happens If You Report a Violation to Us

First, we will listen.

Then, we will help you to determine the options that we have based on the situation. We will also document and retain the details to assure trends of behavior are discovered across locations.

Lastly, we will follow the situation to a resolution where you feel safe and you can remain anonymous if you wish to be.
